Promoting passion in book collecting

Welcome to lizzyoung bookseller’s blog.

Buying and Selling Rare books

What is your passion? Whatever it is, there is an antiquarian book out there just waiting for you to snap it up. Our passion, here at lizzyoung bookseller, is to introduce to those unaware of the pleasures of collecting books to the wonderful world of book collecting

Food, wine, gardening, farming, nutrition, historical domestic, menus…

How would you like to spend a glorious hour or two, snuggled up on the couch, reading recipes written 100 years ago? After collecting and obsessing about food and drink, gardening and farming, for over 30 years, we have assembled a collection of books that we would like to share. (actually it would be better for us if you bought some but if not, we would love to highlight some of our favorites.)

Tell us about your books, or help us start a discussion about what your interested in collecting

It’s a brand new world out there, computers, smart phones, and kindles, to name just a few of the fantastic technologies we now juggle each day. We just want to take a little time and savor an old fashion book.

Can the two Vincent Price cookbooks be found ” A Treasury of Great Recipes” and ” Dr. Price’s Excellent Recipes for Delicious Desserts” ? If found what would the price be?

    Hello Lizzie,

I met you today at the MARIAB show. I bought two cookbooks, including the Indonesian one, and told you that I collect cookbooks–that I have a lot of them (currently over 6000 books and booklets logged in and probably at least twice that much to log in). One of your suggested topics is what one is interested in collecting. My narrowed-down fields are Asian cookery (increasingly esoteric, sometime archaic), antique cookbooks (mostly American, but also English, which were used in the colonies and which fed into US cookery), and little booklets (generally the older the better). Also almanac-type cookbooks, and almanacs with even a few recipes in them.

I look forward to seeing you again. It’s great to have a fresh face in the field.

Jean B., who also mentioned that she has some good duplicates

      Hi Jean,

It was great to meet you too. Always fun to have people around that are as enthusiastic about books as I am. I will check my stock and see if there is anything you might be interested in.
